Human Nature.... I'm not sorry...

"Bedtime Stories" est le 6ème album de Madonna, il sera commercialisé le 25 octobre 1994. Après le sulfureux album "Erotica", ce disque va marquer une étape majeure dans la discographie de la superstar Madonna. Dès lors, Madonna va surfer sur les nouvelles ambiances et les rythmes nouveaux, plus chaleureux et sensuels. De plus, elle assagit son image et se fait davantage discrète pour que l'album soit mieux accueilli. Pour produire cet album, Madonna fait appel à d'autres talents. Les producteurs qui ont travaillé avec elle sont: Dallas Austin, Dave Hall, Nellee Hooper, Babyface ou encore Bjork qui collabore sur Bedtime Story. Toutefois, sur le titre Human Nature, Madonne ne compte pas oublier son précédent album très sulfureux parlant de sexualité débridée. Les paroles de ce titre sont équivoquent: "I'm not sorry, it's human nature, [...] Oops I didn't know we couldn't talk about ses". Les médias et les critiques font une éloge de l'album mais les ventes seront moindre que ces succès comme Like a Prayer ou True Blue. L'album s'écoulera à plus de 8 millions de copies. De cet album va naître un titre qui restera n°1 pendant sept semaines aux USA, il s'agit de Take a Bow. Sur le sol européen, l'album se vend à plus de 2.5 millions d'exemplaires. Pour promouvoir Bedtimes Stories, Madonna sortira 4 singles: Secret, Take a Bow, Bedtime Story et Human Nature. Toutefois, elle ne fera pas de tournée mondiale pour faire découvrir l'album à son public. Il faudra attendre 2001, pour voir Madonna sur scène.

Like a Prayer, un album audacieux...

Le 21 mars 1989, sort le 4ème album studio de Madonna; "Like a Prayer". L'écriture de cet album commence en septembre 1988, la symbiose est telle que six titres sont écrits en quelques semaines. Pour l'occasion elle s'entoure une fois de plus avec des producteurs qu'elle connait bien et avec qui elle a déjà composé: Patrick Leonard et Stephen Bray. Pour cet album elle va aussi collaborer avec le chanteur Prince sur un titre qui sera "Love Song". Cet album est crée peu de temps après le divorce avec Sean Peen qui est une épreuve douloureuse pour Madonna, cela va d'ailleurs se ressentir dans l'écriture des textes. Mais un autre fait important va animer Madonna pour l'écriture de l'album. Il s'agit du décès de sa mère quand elle était jeune. L'album se veut alors plus intimiste et en rapport avec la religion catholique. En effet, elle parle de cette religion et du fait qu'elle a été sous l'influence de celle-ci dans son existence. Elle prend donc le contre pied de tout le monde en prenant beaucoup de risques et l'album va marquer un tournant majeur dans sa carrière musicale. Les pistes de l'album parlent alors du rituel religieux, l'art qui est exercé dans les églises catholiques et surtout le coté mystérieux de cette religion. Pour l'occasion, Madonna change beaucoup au niveau de l'apparence physique, on la découvre un coup brune pour le clip de Like a Prayer ou blonde pour la publicité pour Pepsi. Madonna va alors surprendre par sa maturité qui n'était pas encore invoquée dans ses précédents albums ainsi que sa sensibilité. Certains titres sont directement liés à ce qu'elle a pu vivre jusqu'à ce jour. Notamment pour le titre "Oh Father" ou elle évoque ses relations avec son père, "Promise To Try" ou elle s'exprime sur le décès de sa mère alors qu'elle était une jeune enfant. Le titre "Till Death Do Us Part" va quand à lui exposer le divorce qu'elle a eu avec Sean Penn. 

Like a Prayer est un succès au niveau international, Madonna confirme encore une fois sa place dans l'industrie de la Pop, et entre encore plus dans l'histoire de la musique Pop. Elle est numéro 1 dans de nombreux pays européens, mais aussi en Australie, au Japon et surtout aux Etats Unis, son pays d'origines. Elle vend dans ce pays, plus de 4.5 millions de copies et au Royaume Uni plus de 3 millions de copies. Les ventes de cet album sont estimées à plus de 25 millions de copies. Les critiques sont dans l'ensemble positives autour de cet album. L'accueil par les fans est est énorme, Madonna s'impose alors de plus en plus comme The Queen Of The Pop.

L'album créer de nombreuses polémiques et controverses pour l'époque. Madonna ose beaucoup de choses et provoque énormément quitte à défier les plus conservateurs. Pour son premier single Like a Prayer, avec Mary Lambert, elles signent un clip qui restera à tout jamais gravé dans les mémoires. Elle chante dans une église et Jésus est incarné par une personne de couleur noire, qu'elle embrasse ainsi que des crucifix qui brûlent. En même temps, elle avait signer un contrat de 5 millions de dollars avec Pepsi pour une nouvelle campagne de publicité. Mais après le scandale suscité par le clip, la marque de cola décide de rompre le contrat. Dès lors, le spot publicitaire est retiré des écrans TV. Par ailleurs, les groupes religieux expriment leur opinion en indiquant que Madonna donne une image blasphématoire de la religion et ils appellent à ne pas acheter l'album. Le clip du titre Express Yourself fera aussi sensation et provoquera beaucoup de réactions. Madonna le réalise avec David Fincher qui s'inspire du film Metropolis. Dans le clip, elle prône la libre expression et de nombreuses scènes sont à connotation sexuelles. Il est aussi question de la domination sexuelle des femmes. 

Pour assurer la promotion de cet album, Madonna et son équipe vont mettre de nombreuses choses en place. Pas moins de six singles seront commercialisés pour l'album; Like a Prayer, Express Yourself, Cherish, Oh Father, Dear Jessie, Keep It Together. En ce qui concerne la pochette de l'album, les fans auront le droit à un gros plan de son bassin, elle porte de nombreux bijoux qui est censé rappelé l'image qu'elle véhiculait dans le titre et clip Material Girl. De plus, pour les 1ères éditions de l'album en vinyle, CD ou K7, les produits sont parfumés à l'huile de patchouli ainsi qu'un tract informatif sur le sida. Beaucoup d'autres produits dérivés seront aussi commercialisés (T-shirts, puzzles ou encore badges…). Madonna a également signer un contrat avec la marque Pespi, ou elle apparait sur la canette de Pespi cola hollandaise à l'effigie de la chanteuse avec la mention "Like A Prayer World Tour", mais aussi des vestes et blousons ou encore des montres. Pour présenter son album au public, Madonna va mettre sur pied sa 2ème tournée mondiale, qui parcourra de nombreux continents. Cette tournée: "The Blond Ambition World Tour" est un véritable triomphe, le show est spectaculaire, il s'agit là plus d'un spectacle théâtrale qu'un concert.

Like A Virgin, en route vers la gloire...

Le 12 novembre 1984, sort le deuxième album de Madonna avec comme nom; "Like a Virgin". Surfant sur le succès de son premier album, Madonna veut frapper encore plus fort avec ce nouvel album dans l'industrie de la Pop. Pour cela, elle va prendre en main l'album et deviendra l'un des producteurs de celui-ci pour ainsi contrôler les divers aspects de sa propre musique. Elle va alors choisir le producteur Nile Rodgers. Dès lors, l'enregistrement commence toujours comme pour le premier album à New York. Pour que l'album soit excellent, Nile Rodgers fait appel à de nombreuses personnes; Jason Corsaro qui sera l'ingénieur du son, ou encore le guitariste Edwars. Corsaro se fait alors persuader par Rodgers pour utiliser une nouvelle technique révolutionnaire à l'époque; l'enregistrement digital. Madonna suit de très prêt les différents enregistrements et exprime que cet album sera beaucoup plus fort que le premier sort en 1983. 

Pour signer la pochette de l'album, Madonna fait appel à Steven Meisel. Pour que l'album se fasse remarquer dans l'industrie musicale, elle veut que le titre et l'image de l'album aient un lien de provocation. Celui-ci s'articulera autour de son nom à connotation religion, car le prénom Madonna signifie  Marie, mère de Jésus, dans la religion catholique romaine et le concept chrétien de la naissance virginale. Par ailleurs, Madonna va aussi collaborer avec son ancien petit boyfriend Steve Bray qui co-produira la majorité des titres de cet album. Le style se veut Dance Pop et les titres empreignent aussi la synthpop et la new wawe. 

Dès sa sortie, l'album Like a Virgin accuse des critiques mitigées, mais le succès commercial est là tant sur le sol américain qu'au niveau mondial. L'album fait un entrée fracassante au Billboard 200 en étant n°1. Il se vendra à plus de 10 millions d'exemplaires aux USA, pour cela la Recording Industry Association of America le certifiera disque de diamant. L'album se place aussi n°1 dans de nombreux pays comme l'Allemagne, le Royaume Uni, Italie ou la Nouvelle Zélande. Like a Virgin se vendra à plus de 21 millions d'exemplaires, ce qui en fait l'un des albums les plus vendus de l'histoire de la musique. 

Pour promouvoir l'album, Madonna va enchaîner de nombreux singles toujours avec des clips à succès et quelque peu sulfureux et très provocants pour l'époque. 5 singles seront commercialisés pour l'album: Material Girl, Like a Virgin, Into the Groove, Angel et Dress You Up. Enfin, pour promouvoir davantage ce 2ème album ainsi que le 1er sorti en 1983, Madonna entame sa 1ère tournée qui se jouera uniquement en Amérique du Nord. Le nom de cette tournée sera; The Virgin Tour, dès lors Madonna devient une star de la Pop incontournable. Cet album sera sous les feux des critiques qui se veulent conservatrices mais il signera un départ fulgurant qui n'arrêtera plus Madonna pour devenir la plus grande artiste féminine. Les femmes et la communauté Gay se retroussement énormément dans son style. En 1985, l'album sera ré-édité au niveau international, en y ajoutant Into the Groove et en 2001, la maison de disques Warner Bros décide de sortir un édition remixée.
